Portland, OR—November 20, 2017—Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) is honored to welcome writer and AIDS historian Sarah Schulman to discuss her controversial new publication, Conflict is Not Abuse: Overstating Harm, Community Responsibility, and the Duty of Repair, at 4:00pm, December 3, 2017 in PNCA’s Mediatheque theater. Schulman’s talk will be followed by a moderated conversation with anti-violence and anti-racism activist and conflict resolution expert Dana Ghazi.
SFMOMA’s David Senior Lectures on Performing Publications at PNCA

Portland, OR—November 9, 2017—The Center for Contemporary Art & Culture at Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) is pleased to present Performing Publications, a lecture by David Senior, Chief of Library and Archives at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). This lecture, on Wednesday, November 15 at 6:30pm, is presented in conjunction with, Projects for the Page, an expansive exhibition of publications made by artists that is on view through January 12, 2017 at PNCA. The exhibition broadly considers the subversive potential of the publication as an alternative exhibition space to include questions around and implications of publications’ potential to circulate works of art outside of traditional channels
Pacific Northwest College of Art Hosts Dia de Muertos

Portland, OR—October 23, 2017—Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA), in collaboration with Latino Art Now and Don’t Shoot PDX, is honored to host a series of events, October 24-November 2, 2017 surrounding the traditional celebration of Dia de Muertos. PNCA’s MFA in Print Media and Students of Color Coalition have worked with Maria Garcia, President of Don’t Shoot PDX and owner of Revolución Coffee House and Hector Hernandez, artist and professor at Portland State University to develop a series of programs that delve into the historical origins of this traditional day for the celebration of one’s ancestors.

Pacific Northwest College of Art Increases Enrollment by 10%

Portland, OR—October 17, 2017—Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) is pleased to report the largest ever incoming class for the six programs of PNCA’s Hallie Ford School of Graduate Studies since its first program was launched ten years ago. In addition, PNCA reports a nearly 10% increase in total enrollment for the 2107-18 academic year with the largest incoming undergraduate class in five years.

This event, inspired by the Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thons now taking place around the world, seeks to address underrepresentation of artists of color from around the world on Wikipedia, one of the most ubiquitous sources of information today.

PNCA Announces Design Intensive in Partnership with PENSOLE Footwear Design Academy

Portland, OR—May 31, 2017—Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) is pleased to announce a new partnership with PENSOLE Footwear Design Academy. The PNCA/PENSOLE Design Intensive is a new 15-credit, one semester program designed to ready students for careers in the footwear industry. The Intensive offers three areas of focus from which students can choose: Footwear, Apparel and Accessories, and Color and Material Design. Applications are now open, and the program begins September 25th, 2017. A second intensive is planned for the spring 2018.
PNCA Welcomes Shawna Lipton as New MA in Critical Studies Chair

Lipton holds a Ph.D. in English from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her dissertation, “Queer Literary Criticism and the Biographical Fallacy,” engaged queer theory, modernist studies, and author theory.

Zeisler is co-founder and Editorial/Creative Director of Bitch Media, a nonprofit, independent, feminist media organization whose mission is to provide and encourage a feminist response to mainstream media and popular culture. Bitch Media is best known for the magazine Bitch: Feminist Response to Pop Culture, which started as a zine in 1996.

Pacific Northwest College of Art Hosts Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon

Portland, OR—April 7, 2017— The Albert Solheim Library at Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) hosts the second of two Art + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-Thons this spring in Portland on Saturday, April 29 from 11am – 4pm. These events are part of an annual international effort to redress the gender imbalance of Wikipedia’s volunteer editors and thus content. The events require no previous experience and are open to people of all gender identities. PNCA is located at 511 Northwest Broadway and the front entrance is on the west side, on Portland’s North Park Blocks.
Costumes, Reverence, and Forms // A Portland/Philadelphia Mixer

Portland, OR—March 27, 2017— The Center for Contemporary Art & Culture at Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) is pleased to present Costumes, Reverence, and Forms, an exchange exhibition co-organized with the artist-run, Philadelphia-based Vox Populi. Costumes, Reverence, and Forms is the culmination of a year’s worth of curatorial exchange work involving two institutions and six curators. Together the team reviewed 180 artist’s websites, conducted 22 studio visits, and logged countless hours of communication and thought. In the end, the exhibition brings eight artists from two river cities together to show their work alongside each other in two exhibitions: one in Portland and the other in Philadelphia. This mixer has broadened each institutions’ knowledge of the other’s city and artists and fostered new relationships. The exhibition itself serves as a slice rather than a survey, a small fragment of or view into the art scenes of these two cities.

Pacific Northwest College of Art Launches Oregon Matching Scholarship

Portland, OR—November 28, 2016—To open the possibility for art college for more students who would thrive in programs that emphasize original and critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration, Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) is launching the PNCA Oregon Matching Scholarship for all Oregon high school seniors and transfer students who are awarded Oregon Opportunity Grants (OOGs) for Fall 2017. The PNCA Oregon Matching Scholarship matches the Oregon Opportunity Grant dollar for dollar and can be renewed each year a full-time student is awarded the OOG and maintains a minimum grade point average.

PNCA Temporarily Suspends Under-enrolled MA in CTCR Program for 2016-17 School Year

Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) regrets that for the 2016-17 academic year, the MA in Critical Theory and Creative Research (CTCR) program has been suspended. It was a difficult decision, but fiduciary responsibility to the College dictated that the financial risk of allowing the program to run with too few students was too great.
