New Student Orientation is where PNCA starts to feel like yours. Move into ArtHouse, meet the people who'll become your creative community, get the tools to navigate campus, and start exploring Portland like the artist you already are.

New Student Orientation

Move In. Check In. Plug In.

Orientation is built to help you start strong. You'll meet faculty, staff, and fellow new students. You’ll get oriented with PNCA's labs, studios, wellness resources, and academic support.

Meet your people before the first project is even assigned.

At PNCA, visiting means getting inside the spaces where artists actually work. Tour the studios, galleries, labs, and classrooms. See what students are making now. Then sit down with Admissions and talk through your portfolio, your questions, and your next move.

Come Curious

Leave With a Clearer Picture of Your Future

No curated highlight reel here. A PNCA visit gets you into the creative spaces, in front of current student work, and face-to-face with an Admissions Counselor. Ask about financial aid, housing, programs, Portland, the application process, or whatever's on your mind. This is your chance to see the school, the city, and the creative community you might be joining.

If you’re heading into your senior year and starting to think about art school, this is a good time to start paying attention to what you’re making. Your PNCA portfolio should feel like you. Not a checklist, not a greatest hits of safe bets. Show us what you notice, what you make, what you're willing to try, and what you care enough to keep coming back to. Start pulling together 10 to 15 recent pieces, and make every choice mean something.

Portfolio Prep

Show Range and Skill, and Most Importantly, Show Yourself

A strong portfolio doesn’t need to be perfect. It needs to be honest, recent, and chosen with intention. Bring in work that shows your technical foundation alongside your curiosity and willingness to push into new territory. The work we remember most tends to be the kind that could only have come from one person, and proves that person knows how to actually look at the world.
