Through Senior Thesis, as well as student-run galleries, students have the opportunity to display their work. PNCA offers a variety of spaces to bring your installations and creations to life. Diné transdisciplinary artist creates work showcasing Indigenous roots
Demian Diné Yazhi´ is known for his work rooted in Radical Indigenous Queer Feminist ideology. He has received numerous awards, including the Brink Award and inclusion in the Whitney Museum's "Between the Waters."
PNCA Grad makes a name as “Portland’s premier drag clown”
Anthony Hudson, known as “Portland’s premier drag clown” Carla Rossi, is a multidisciplinary artist and 2018 National Artist Fellow. Anthony was recognized for their acclaimed solo show "LOOKING FOR TIGER LILY" and its upcoming sequel.
Through individual mentorship, faculty will help you discover your interests and passions within the Intermedia space. Our department also hosts acclaimed artists that understand the drive to create something new. Students can connect with these visiting artists and speakers and receive guidance.
Emily Ginsburg, Chair of BFA Programs at PNCA, explores behavioral patterns through diverse media in her conceptually driven work. Her art, exhibited and commissioned internationally, bridges psychology, sociology, and design, enriching her teaching.
Melanie Stevens, with degrees from Yale University and PNCA, is a versatile artist, illustrator, and writer. She co-founded Miss Anthology, empowering diverse young comic artists, and co-curates Nat Turner Project, a platform fostering artistic freedom for artists of color.
Erin Doughton teaches Intermedia and mentors BFA thesis students. With a background in dance, music, and theatre, Erin supports emerging artists and fosters cultural exchange through original works and collaborations.
We offer courses that focus on new applications of media, theory and practice, broad cultural perspectives, and critical discourse. Students design their own curriculum, drawing from multiple majors. Supported by faculty mentorship, your exploration extends beyond studio and academic coursework.
Develop a variety of performance techniques such as gesture, movement, voice, and site manipulation through intensive workshops and collaborations. Enrich your practice with a blend of historical insight, hands-on projects, and exposure to art performances and film screenings.
Experience a studio course that focuses on ideas instead of specific media. Cover a wide range of interdisciplinary research topics within and outside the visual arts. Titles have included Image Test Media, Body Politics, Art - Ethics & Transgression, Utopia/Dystopia, and more.
Our Intermedia major requires 121 credits to complete the degree. This includes: 76 in studio, 30 in Liberal Arts and Sciences, and 15 in Art History. Of the studio credits, 16 are required courses in the Foundation program, at least 36 are the required courses in the studio major, and the remainder are available for studio electives. A minimum two-year residency at the College is required.
