BRAVO ALUMNI - MAY 2018

Anna Marie Rockwell ‘07 was commissioned Wish Tree, a series of photographs for the exhibition Shared Sacred Sites, in collaboration with The New York Public Library and the Morgan Library & Museum at the James Gallery at the Graduate Center, CUNY. Wish Tree focuses on the stories of shared holy places in the Mediterranean through photographs, prints, miniatures, video, and a for visitors to wish upon and adorn with objects.

Congratulations to Rachael Allen ‘03 who was appointed Dean of Students at the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) here in Portland. Allen worked as the Director of Student Life here at PNCA for over ten years managing student activities, including the Student at Risk and Wellness Programs, new student orientation, commencement and more. We are sad to see her go but are confident that she will continue her legacy at NUNM!

Stumptown Coffee Roasters awarded Melanie Stevens MFA '17 an Artist Fellowship. She received an award and exhibited at the Downtown Location. Congratulations Melanie! She was also one of the panelist for RACC's Art & Power: A Conversation Series on Code-Switching.

Hyperallergic featured the work of Mary Mattingly '02, Because For Now We Still Have Poetry (image above) at Robert Mann gallery. The series was made up of 20 works in a variety of mediums including photographic assemblages, and objects arranged within landscapes. The works seek to convey ecological optimism and pessimism.

Susan Seubert '92 was invited to speak on travel photography at TEDx. Susan is an award-winning travel and editorial photographer, and an acknowledged National Geographic Photography Expert.

Long Beach Post featured designer Eric Trine MFA ‘13 and his new brand of furniture design, Amigo Modern.

Oregon Arts Commission awarded Jack Featherly ‘90 an Individual Artist Fellowship!

Hyperallergic and No Depression magazines featured Thom Wheeler Castillo '09 and his sound art collective Archival Feedback (Available only in print.) He was also interviewed by a prominent local filmmaker for Mosaic Magazine. Congrats Thom!

Eileen Isagon Skyers MA '14 was featured on Willamette Week  for her exhibit, Eyes Without A Face, a multimedia exhibit described as "an open-ended inquiry than a forecast of doom" at Williamson|Knight Gallery run by John Knight MFA '13 and Iris Williamson MA '14.

Sue Taylor wrote about Elizabeth Malaska MFA ‘11 in Art in America’s April issue on her series Heavenly Bodies at Russo Lee Gallery. She was also recently awarded the Yaddo residency for August and was invited to mount a solo exhibition at Los Angeles Valley College.

cvllejerx, a poetry, performance, and fashion collective run by Angélica Maria Millán Lozano MFA '17 and maximiliano MFA '17 was also featured on Willamette Week for their RACC funded two-day fashion show ROPA VIEJA described as "Cvllejerx's shows are more like renegade happenings full of people in really cool clothes."

Robert Coghill '66 was featured on Oregon Coast Today about his art practice and established career in the Pacific Northwest.

Laura Allcorn MFA '11 spoke at Design Week Portland as one of four distinguished panelists for a thoughtful and humorous evening as they offered brief presentations of their expert perspectives on voice and how it shifts perception and reality. Check out Laura Allcorn's website.

Paul Sutinen interviewed Sherrie Wolf '74 for Oregon Arts Watch about her new paintings at Russo Lee Gallery exhibiting through the month of May.

Fin Lee '10 will be featured in next Lisa Congdon book on creative voice. Congrats Fin!

The Chicago Maroon features the work of Richarch Rezac '74, Address, currently exhibiting at Renaissance Society gallery at the University of Chicago. 

Arvie Smith ‘84 recently painted a mural in The Alberta Arts District at the Natural Grocers store. The mural is now part of the City of Portland’s public art collection and maintained by RACC. He was also featured on Flossin Media magazine (VOL 18. No. 1, Pg 22)
