PNCA Alumni Exhibition Call for Entries Distinguished Jury to Review Submissions for Exhibition in Fall 2012
May 22, 2012 – PORTLAND, OR – Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) announces a call for entries to alumni for the 2012 PNCA juried alumni exhibition, For Life, which opens September 4 and runs through October 22, 2012. This juried exhibition will provide a rare opportunity for PNCA and the broader Portland cultural community to see the scope of contemporary art, craft, and design by alumni from PNCA’s Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master of Fine Arts, and Continuing Education certificate programs. What’s more, it offers the viewer the opportunity to become an institutional archaeologist, to dig down through the accumulated strata of object, image, and idea to get at the cultural DNA of the College. For alumni, it is an appropriate homecoming or completion of a circle.
The distinguished jurors include Randy Gragg, Editor, Portland Monthly Magazine; Namita Gupta-Wiggers, Curator, Museum of Contemporary Craft; Sarah Miller-Meigs, Founder, lumber room; Deanne Rubinstein, Member, OHSU Art Committee of the Marquam Hill Steering Committee; Stephanie Snyder, John and Anne Hauberg Curator and Director, The Douglas F. Cooley Memorial Art Gallery, Reed College. The exhibition will be curated by Victor Maldonado, Assistant Professor/Inclusions Specialist at PNCA. Artists juried into the exhibition will receive a $100 honorarium in thanks for their participation. PNCA likes to say it prepares students for a life of creative practice. For Life demonstrates the fruits of that life. Major exhibition support has been provided by The Ford Family Foundation. Who Can Apply
Graduates of the BFA, MFA, and CE certificate programs at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon are eligible. Works must have been created in the last five years in any discipline that can be shown in a gallery, including design work and detailed proposals for installations. We ask that no student assignment or thesis work be submitted.
Entry Requirements
Each artist may submit digital images of up to three (3) pieces for consideration, including one detail shot per piece, for a total of six (6) images. Video and audio submissions are also welcome, as are complete proposals for installations. We also require a Curriculum Vitae (CV), a complete description of the works submitted (including conceptual basis), and the answers to a few questions.
Deadline
All entries must be received no later than midnight Mountain Standard Time, June 24, 2012.
Acceptance
Applicants will be informed of acceptance into the show via email by July 31, 2012.
Awards
All accepted artists will receive a $100 honorarium from the College.
Due Date for Accepted Works
All accepted pieces must be received by August 23, 2012. Work may be hand-delivered or shipped. All two-dimensional artworks must be framed—excluding wrapped canvas — and ready to hang. Watercolors, pastels, and photographs must be under glass or Plexiglas. Artwork must be original. The artist will be responsible for all shipping charges for both directions, including shipping insurance, if desired. Every precaution will be taken to handle artwork with the utmost care. Works will be covered by PNCA’s insurance policy while on campus, although artists may elect to use their own insurance as well.
Exhibition Dates
The exhibition opens on Wednesday, September 4, 2012 and will run through Saturday, October 27, 2012.
About Pacific Northwest College of Art
PNCA prepares students for a life of creative practice and has been an influential force in art and design education in the Pacific Northwest since its founding in 1909. Today PNCA enrolls over 600 students in 15 undergraduate and graduate programs, and another 2,500 students through its continuing education programs.
