James Reid and Jordan Schnitzer Share Close Ties with Collaborations & Dialogues

July 07, 2010

Collaborations & Dialogues: Selections from the Jordan D. Schnitzer Print Collection features works produced at Gemini G.E.L. in Los Angeles by prominent contemporary artists Ellsworth Kelly, John Baldessari, Dan Flavin, Richard Serra and Robert Gober, among others. Master Printer James Reid who curates the exhibition, visits Portland as a PNCA/Cyan PDX Cultural Resident and guest instructor for Advanced Printmaking Studio: Collaboration, a workshop offered through PNCA’s Continuing Education program.

James Reid is the Workshop Director of Gemini G.E.L., one of the most important centers for the production of graphic art since its founding in 1966. He has been the Workshop Director since 1998 and worked directly with all of the artists represented in this exhibition. Jordan Schnitzer and James Reid have known each other since Jordan first began collecting work produced by Gemini.

A gallery conversation on Monday, July 12 will explore their common interest in printmaking, and contrast the points of view of a prominent collector with that of the printer who has collaborated with many of the leading contemporary artists in America. With an intimate working knowledge of the history of all of this work, James will be able to thoroughly discuss their development from initial collaboration to final production.
