PNCA MFA in Visual Studies Alumna Elizabeth Malaska Named 2021 Guggenheim Fellow
April 12, 2021
Pacific Northwest College of Art extends a huge congratulations to MFA in Visual Studies alumna Elizabeth Malaska, who was recently named one of the 2021 Guggenheim Fellows in Fine Arts. Established by Senator Simon Guggenheim in 1925, a Guggenheim Fellowship is one of the most significant awards and recognitions a scholar or artist can receive.
Known for paintings that explore the place of the female body and raise issues about femininity, power, domination, and vulnerability, Malaska’s work has been included in regional and national exhibitions, including at Portland Community College’s North View Gallery, the University of Oregon’s White Box, Disjecta, Milepost 5, Nationale, and the Oregon State Capitol.
Prior to graduating from PNCA’s MFA in Visual Studies program in 2012, Malaska received her BFA from the California College of the Arts. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Portland Art Museum and The Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Collection in Portland, and has also been acquired by the Schneider Museum of Art at Southern Oregon University.
Malaska is represented by Russo Lee Gallery in Portland, where her latest exhibition “Sacrifice” – which creates complicated narratives by layering multiple figures and scenes within a scene - is currently on display until May 1, 2021. See the full list of 2021 Guggenheim Fellows here, and learn more about Malaska here.
