Just Food: Celebrating the African Diaspora, Recap with Celebrity Chef & Contemporary Artist Bryant Terry
January 20, 2023

Students, staff, faculty, and Portland community members had the honor of hosting James Beard Award-Winning celebrity chef and contemporary artist Bryant Terry for a conversation and cooking demonstration to honor the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, JR. Here's a quick recap:

Terry discussed the intersection of social justice, food sovereignty, and the African Diaspora through recipes, art, and meaningful community impact. The opening feature included spoken artist Sterling Cunio speaking on food scarcity and the importance of cultural sustenance.

Students were taught cultural cooking traditions, the importance of social practice, and building community through food. The audience was fed both through knowledge and a delicious meal with locally-sourced produce.

The knowledge and food served were such a treasure to the PNCA community. (Can all of our lectures include a cooking demo?)
Hats off to Chef Terry!
