The Center for Contemporary Art & Culture and the MFA Visual Studies program are excited to host the US book launches of Lucy Cotter, ed. Reclaiming Artistic Research (2019).
In twenty conversations with leading artists and curators, Reclaiming Artistic Research explores the dynamic nature of artistic thinking, tracing how ideas and forms co-emerge through material, conceptual and embodied ways of working. Foregrounding art’s engagement with diverse fields – from ecology, quantum physics and politics to dance, law and the tech industry – it manifests how artists produce new paradigms and questions, rather than supplementing existing knowledge. Lucy Cotter reclaims artistic research from the shadows of academic definitions and institutional debates, highlighting its artistic significance and mapping an epistemology of artistic creation that radically shifts our perceptions of art.

Lucy Cotter is an independent writer and curator. A regular contributor to journals such as Flash Art, Mousse, Frieze and Third Text, she is currently guest curator of Art&Education: Classroom. She was curator of the Dutch Pavilion 57th Venice Biennale 2017 with Cinema Olanda: Wendelien van Oldenborgh and is currently working on an exhibition and performance series entitled The Unknown Artist, taking place at the Center for Contemporary Art and Culture, Portland, USA in 2020.
