Art Walk Re-Cap with Artist Derek Franklin
June 28, 2023
As the summer 2023 Low Residency Visual Studies intensive kicks off, we visited Elizabeth Leach Gallery for Derek Franklin's solo exhibition for an impromptu artist talk. He discussed the meaning of his work and his relationship to art as theatre and "painting everyday objects of love and survival".
MFA students got the chance to "pull back the curtain" and learn more about Franklin's artistic process and embedded research through candid conversation. Franklin is a PNCA alum, creative director of Converge 45 and runs his own gallery SE Cooper Contemporary on his property.
