April 12, 2017

Dan Wieden and Tricia Snell

Please join the MFA in Collaborative Design program on April 12 as we continue our Twilight Talks series with special guests Dan Wieden and Tricia Snell. This high IQ happy hour begins at 5pm. Talks start at 5:30.

Drawing on her background as a writer, administrator, teacher, musician and advocate, Tricia serves as the executive director of Caldera. Caldera is an arts organization located in the serene mountains of Sisters, Oregon, whose mission is to be “a catalyst for the transformation of underserved youth through innovative, year-round art and environmental programs”. Caldera launched in 1996 as an arts camp with the idea to bring together youth with limited opportunities, from rural and urban communities, to make art. Caldera also lends support to contemporary artists through its Artist-in-Residence program. Every winter Caldera selects a small group of artists, creative thinkers and performers to stay for monthlong residencies. In 2015, Caldera received a National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award from First Lady Michelle Obama, recognizing Caldera as one of the top youth arts programs in the nation.

Dan Wieden, one half of the founding duo of advertising juggernaut Wieden + Kennedy, serves as co-chair of Caldera’s Board of Directors. Wieden is famous for coining the “Just Do It” tagline for sports apparel powerhouse NIKE and for building W+K from a tiny shoestring advertising outfit into the world-renowned creative agency that it is today.

The Twilight Talks series provides opportunity for students, faculty and colleagues to get up close and personal with local and visiting leaders addressing wicked problems through design and creative process. Featured guests come from business, non-profit, and government sectors to talk about current environmental, social and entrepreneurial challenges they’re facing, and brainstorm novel approaches with us. The atmosphere is informal, the discussions are intense, the beverages are local. Every Wednesday in the Office of Career Design.
