Student Project Spotlight: SJ Bowden's data visualization of the PAR process!

May 22, 2020

In the MFA in Collaborative Design + MA in Design Systems program, we think about designing WITH, instead of designing FOR the communities we collaborate with. This approach honors the knowledge that people and communities inherently have and acknowledges that people are experts in their own experiences. Participatory Action Research (PAR) is a method that is integral to our design thinking in that 'it is a method of research that relies on purposeful engagement with with participants to deeply study human-centered problems and ignite action towards positive change'. MFA Collaborative Design student SJ Bowden's thoughtful data visualization of the PAR process, using the framework of the table of elements, is a fantastic way to outline and explain the central elements of PAR in a visually compelling way.
