February 11, 2019

We’re so excited for the release of LK James’ (AC+D '18) recent book, The Full House and the Empty House, which was written and illustrated during James’s first year in the MFA Applied Craft + Design program. The summer between her first and second year in the program James pitched the book to several different publishers and received an offer from Ripple Grove Press! Now two years later we’re so excited to finally see James’ work come to fruition in such a beautiful publication!!

THE FULL HOUSE AND THE EMPTY HOUSE
[RIPPLE GROVE PRESS, FEB. 5TH, 2019]

“…This book breaks all of those rules. It feels right because it is right. In one go, Ms. James has hit just the perfect tone. I was reminded of classic picture books from long ago. Titles like The Maggie B by Irene Haas where not a lot happens, but everything that does is just right. I don’t like to wield the term ‘contemporary classic’ about, but this book would deserve the appellation.”
Elizabeth Bird, Fuse #8 via SLJ

“The Full House and the Empty House are very good friends—when they dance they admire in each other the qualities they lack within themselves. Even though the houses are different on the inside, it doesn't reflect how they feel on the outside…An original, deftly crafted, and entertaining picture book story by artist and author LK James, ‘The Full House and the Empty House’ is certain to be an immediate and enduringly popular addition to family, elementary school, and community library collections”
Midwest Book Review

“a deceptively powerful, timely message in the guise of a quiet, old-fashioned package.”
