Every Friday we give #highfives to a different designer from our extended family of PNCA students, faculty, alumni, and guest lecturers. 🙌🏾🙌🏻🙌🏽 We ask them five questions.
Amy Meyer, '16 aims to create abstract, visceral experiences through design, from identity and brand-building to installations. You can catch her work as part of 2019's Portland Winter Lights Festival, February 7-9, 6-11pm. Amy is part of Portland Pixel Party, a small, group of artists and designers who will be projecting on the Marquam Bridge, collaborating in real time throughout the festival.

Q: What do you geek out about?
A: Aside from the usual design stuff, I really love production design and concept art for animation and film.
Q: What do you do to get “unstuck?”
A: Look at design memes.

For personal stuff, I’ll just message a friend or two for a blind read on whatever I’m working on.
Q: What or who inspires you?
A: Some people I’m inspired by: Ash Thorp, David OReilly, Takashi Murakami, Adam Garcia, Andrew Vucko, Joyce N Ho, Grace Duong, Devon Ko, and more…
Q: What are you reading right now?
A: I recently finished reading The Responsible Object: A History of Design Ideology for the Future. It’s a unique collection of essays that cover various examples of of socially committed design ideologies and strategies in multiple design fields throughout history. 5/5, would recommend for design nerds.
Q: Is there anything you wish you had known just starting out, that you know now?
A: In school, I wish we were taught advanced formatting for Word and Powerpoint.
I'm totally serious It's a reality of "working in the real world." There will be times where you can't use InDesign.
