Art & Power: Activating Social Change

Tazha Williams, artist, musician, designer, poet, and student in PNCA's design program, is one of three artists and designers featured in Art & Power: Activating Social Change at Unite Oregon, presented by the Regional Arts & Culture Council on July 19 at 6pm. The event, part of RACC's ongoing Art & Power series, is free and open to the public.

Artistic expression holds the power to build and heal community, increase awareness, and change minds, in ways that can be limited using traditional forms of communication. Communities of color and other historically marginalized groups have continuously used art to convey messages of resistance and resiliency to challenge power structures, systemic inequities and dominant narratives. From the civil rights "era" to the #AbolishIce movement, art has and will continue to be a creative tool for political revolution.
In the fourth iteration of the Art & Power series, Activating Social Change, we will learn from Tazha Williams, Helday de la Cruz, and Donovan Smith about the relationship between their art and their activism. How are these three Portland-based artists using their creative practice to respond to local and national issues? Come listen, learn and reflect on the power of art as a catalyst for social change.
