Nicholas Frank

Nicholas Frank is an artist, writer and curator in San Antonio, where he relocated after a term as an Artpace International Artist-In-Residence January-March 2017. Formerly located in Milwaukee, Frank ran the Hermetic Gallery (1993-2001), co-founded the Milwaukee International Art Fair (2006-2009), served as curator for INOVA (Institute of Visual Arts) at the

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and co-wrote a new Fine Arts curriculum for the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, where he taught for eight years. Recent exhibitions include Sala Diaz in San Antonio, The Green Gallery in Milwaukee, Western Exhibitions in Chicago, and Nathalie Karg Gallery at the Untitled Art Fair in Miami. Frank’s art writing has appeared in the catalogue for the 2014 Whitney Biennial, in diverse publications including OEI (Stockholm), BE (Berlin), Chicago Artist Writers (Chicago), X-tra (Los Angeles), Purple (Paris), in his own blog the Nicholas Frank Public Library, and in artist’s monographs for Gean Moreno, Jennifer Bolande, Michelle Grabner and others. His novella The Sound of the Horn is in the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp. His writing garnered a Creative Capital / Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Workshop mentorship with Barry Schwabsky in 2016, and he now writes about arts and culture for a publication in San Antonio called the Rivard Report.
