Artist Statement
I’m a mixed-race lesbian illustrator based out of Washington state. My interest is
primarily in concept art, comic making, and the occasional fan art, most of which I do digitally. Much of my work is character-based and social justice-oriented, due to my mere existence being considered a political statement. I want to make sure my characters have variety and diversity because I believe representation in media is important! Less Than Human is my webcomic wherein I try to accomplish representation while exploring a coming of age story in a cyberpunk future setting. My work is heavily inspired by my own experiences as a minority as well as the experiences of friends and family in similar positions.
Abstract
Less Than Human is a coming of age story set in a cyberpunk-esque 23rd century where intergalactic travel has become commonplace. Follow Korvir Luvandre, a 15 year old Geisswick from the planet Russlteria who immigrated to Earth with his family when he was 3, as he navigates an increasingly disturbing authoritarian society as a minority along with friends and family. His relationships with brother Vatiph, best friend Nova, new friend Babela, and new found rival Bex are all integral to his growth as a person. As the little brother of the leader of a local gang, The Mavericks, Korvir is intrinsically tied to the gang, and his actions have repercussions to not only himself, but everyone else associated with the gang. He learns this the hard way when he picks a fight with the wrong person, and it ends up coming down on everyone else.
