I am motivated by the experience of being a human; the complexities of human emotions and events. Powerful forces of passion, pain, love, and loss shape our brief experiences with humanity. I specialize in figurative artwork, focused on reality through a human lens. The figures represented in my work are a manifestation of my own personal history. My connection is almost always with male and nonbinary figures, both a way to explore difficult subject matter without continuing the objectification of female bodies in art, as well as a method of exploring my own queerness and nonbinary identity. I often draw inspiration from my own experiences expressed through constructed narratives. The explorations of my work are varied social and emotional moments. Power dynamics, gender and sexuality, memory, narration, religion, and psychiatric expressions are ongoing themes. I find these experiences to have shaped my life and understanding of the world, and in turn utilize them to speak about the experiences of humanity. I often feel limited by one medium, such as traditional painting or drawing. For this reason, I find myself working mainly in mixed media. It is not especially important to me to stay true to one traditional medium. Instead, I attempt to harness many different media to evoke specific emotions through their unique qualities, even media which are considered crafts rather than fine art. Paint, wax, gold, glitter, metal, wet paper. In the exploration of my materials, I draw connections with the humanness of them - how they remind me of skin, bone, viscera, and the base elements of body. My artworks intend to capture the identities and experiences surrounding the idea of what it means to inhabit a human body. Social, physical, emotional, sexual, and mental narratives are the core of my work.
