My art practice evolved out of my daydreams, my love of fantasy stories, and a need to tell the story of my internal battles with depression and self hatred. I create fictional narratives in printed illustrations that generally focus on a version of myself. These stories are like elaborate daydreams or games of make believe, but are not autobiographical in the sense that they depict actual events in my life. My images and stories often come to me with no explanation, and I do my best to let them form without initial judgment. This process is often guided by an interaction or collaboration with my materials, letting them guide my composition, mark-making, and content. Creating fantastical stories in this way allows me to access my deepest emotions and show how they relate, while at the same time allowing myself to play.
