Public Spaces for Mental Health examines the intersection between the public built environment, participatory design and the diverse spatial experiences of people with mental health challenges. People who experience mental health challenges are largely invisible when it comes to the design of public space. Their needs are not understood, and there has been little effort to explore the ways in which they navigate and interact with space differently. This project is exploring how to make the daily lived experience of those with mental health challenges visible in the design of public space.
