The selfie is an everyday occurrence, form of documentation, and communication that shapes our self-conception much like a mirror does. But selfies are not just reflective, they are a productive entity that actively builds culture and reshapes space. Within this project I speak on and examine the selfie as an intersection between digital and physical presentation, to prove that this form of self photography is a tool that can be used to shape culture, shape self, gain representation, social capital, and even safety.
I have created:
A series of drawings of selfies I took in mirrors.
An essay examining the concepts of this project in depth.
And a website holding that holds the essay, the drawings, and includes a page allowing users to share links to clothing for people who have trouble finding clothes that fit.
