Summary
The Apple and the Tree, is a 1-1:30 minute digital 2D animated short film that shows a family as it passes from the parents in a heteronormative relationship to their child in a same sex relationship raising their own child. This will depict how they find all that matters when raising a child is love, support, and understanding. Showing a simple story, with simple characters, who show kids that it’s okay to be themselves.
Artist Statement
Devon Wells is an Oregon born animator, storyboarder, and puppet fabricator based in the Portland area. Shs has spent her life using art to enrich the experiences of herself and others in expression of emotions through animation and other forms of visual storytelling. Her recent work has been a stop motion film, Weighted in the Wings (2020), and a 2D digital animated film The Apple and The Tree (2023). Both films are about moments in their personal life that they were processing and wanting to share with others to make them feel seen. Currently Devon is working on personal projects and expanding her portfolio. Devon strives to make works that enrich others through shared experience and understanding that compassion is important to oneself and then to others.
