Abstract
Recycle, Reclaim, Repurpose, and Recreate Fine and Wearable Art
By Daniela Perarson
My thesis is Recycle, Reclaim, Repurpose, and Recreate Fine and Wearable Art from recycled, reclaimed, and repurposed materials as an alternative to help find a way to save our planet. I want to inspire people to do the same. Everything I made for my thesis was created from materials I either already had, were donated to me, acquired from estate liquidations, and some found items. These materials included garments, sewing supplies, and items I pulled out of the garbage or were going to be thrown away. Planned were two complete outfits and a wall tapestry, however I planned all my studio classes around my thesis and so I was also able to create three gift wrapping table cloths and jewelry accessories for the outfits. The skills being used are screen printing, sewing, painting, tie-dye and beadworking.

Artist Statement
Global warming, and pollution of our lands, air, and water are getting worse every day because of us humans and our wasteful consumption. Fashion and other textiles are one of the things that contribute to all this waste. I believe Mother Earth is a centennial being and she is allowing us humans to live on her. With all this consumption and waste we are destroying, killing, and polluting our environment, soon Mother Earth will try to get rid of us like like lice in one's hair. Our Mother Earth is very sacred to me as I am very earthbound, besides we ALL live on her so it should concern everyone. By using natural dyes, and recycled and reclaimed materials to create ‘wearable’ and ‘usable' I want to change people’s way of thinking about the things they throw away and what they buy. Instead of buying and throwing things away maybe instead they could upcycle their textiles instead.
