Abstract
UpRooted is an 88 page wordless graphic novel that follows a small seedling, named Root, in his journey to find a new home. With a mix of watercolor and digital media, the book focuses on the process of grief and experiencing emotion for the first time. Root processes sadness, anger, and shame through different caves that represent the specific emotion through the colors and the plants that live there. Root finds a new friend, Light, who helps him navigate the caves and the overwhelming emotions, and they make more friends along the way.
