My third grade teacher told my mom that she thought I was going to be a fashion designer. For me, creativity was something that came with ease and abundance. Now, I am no fashion designer, but I think about what my 3rd grade teacher said almost daily and it is what inspired this piece. In the imagery I was exploring the concept of curated beauty. We as a society like to curate, to make things more beautiful than they seem. We especially like to do this with the female form. We position it in a way that is just so, or add a little bit of this or that so only then are we perfect, or worthy. I too hold myself to these same impossible standards and degrade myself when I fail to meet them. With my work I aim to celebrate the female form instead of dehumanize, colonize, and politicize.
