Pacific Northwest College of Art Presents 2016 Thesis Exhibitions
Undergraduate and Graduate students show their culminating projects
Portland, OR—May 10, 2016—Demonstrating the scope of work being made by undergraduate and graduate students, Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) presents its annual 2016 Thesis Exhibitions opening May 22, 2016 and running through June 17, 2016. There will be an opening reception from 6-9pm on May 22 at both PNCA’s main building at 511 NW Broadway and at 724 NW Davis.
The BFA Thesis Exhibition in PNCA’s main building will feature work by nearly 62 graduating seniors whose projects range from a mobile print studio to a video-mapped installation and everything in between. Viewers can expect to see paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, design projects, artist’s publications, videos, digital works, and installations.
The MFA in Visual Studies Thesis Exhibition with works by 15 graduating students will be held at 724 NW Davis. Infectious spills of color and pattern in handmade objects and performative acts; digital and sonic responses to labor and economies; and architectural intervention and painting are included among the many wide ranging achievements of the the artists in the multidisciplinary MFA in Visual Studies class of 2016.
MFA in Print Media’s first graduating class will install their Capstone projects in the Lemelson Studio in the Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Center for Art and Design. Multidisciplinary works including 25-foot wheatpasted prints and video demonstrate the program’s expanded viewpoint of what print media can be.
The MFA Collaborative Design Thesis exhibition, also in the Lemelson Studio, is entitled Never Tell Me the Odds. MFA CD students have tackled wicked problems including tribal housing and culture, post-traumatic stress disorder, street food in civic ecosystems, and re-imagining conversation. "The kind of problems we're working on won't be solved in our lifetimes," says Professor Don Harker
Candidates in the MFA in Applied Craft and Design program, jointly offered with Oregon College of Art and Craft, will present LIMITED TIME ONLY, an exhibition celebrating “two years of late night deliberations, mind-blowing manifestations, blood, sweat, and fear.” This culminating event showcases the work of twelve individual artists, designers, and craftspeople, each bringing different perspectives and a multidisciplinary approach to making. This exhibition is held at the Bison Building at 421 NE 10th with an opening on May 22, 2015 from 6-9pm. The exhibition runs through June 5, 2015.
Visitors to PNCA’s Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Center for Art and Design will also be able to see the current exhibition in the Center for Contemporary Art & Culture’s 511 Gallery, James Rosenquist: Lifetime Achievement.
