Pacific Northwest College of Art Launches Oregon Matching Scholarship

Portland, OR—November 28, 2016—To open the possibility for art college for more students who would thrive in programs that emphasize original and critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration, Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) is launching the PNCA Oregon Matching Scholarship for all Oregon high school seniors and transfer students who are awarded Oregon Opportunity Grants (OOGs) for Fall 2017. The PNCA Oregon Matching Scholarship matches the Oregon Opportunity Grant dollar for dollar and can be renewed each year a full-time student is awarded the OOG and maintains a minimum grade point average.

This is the latest in a series of initiatives the college has undertaken to make a high quality college education affordable for more students. In 2016 alone, PNCA students received more than $5.8 million in financial aid. The new scholarship is awarded based on need and is offered in addition to existing PNCA scholarships.

“I argue that an arts education is the right choice for many more young people than those who consider themselves to be artists,” says PNCA President Don Tuski. “In an arts college, students are required to do new, original, and authentic thinking and making every day. This foundation trains them to be problem solvers and encourages creative and intellectual risk. Close mentoring from faculty and an academic culture based on critique prepare students to be become strong collaborators as well as leaders well-suited for broad range of careers and industries.”

Incoming students will automatically be awarded a PNCA Oregon Matching Scholarship if they are awarded the OOG. No additional application is necessary.
