The MFA in Print Media is looking forward to sending a group of students and faculty to SGCI, the largest national printmaking conference, held this year in Dallas, Texas. This year, the focus will be on the capacity of printmaking to act as an agent of transformation in its practices within the field, contributions to other art media, and larger cultural roles. Prints are celebrated for the ways in which they spread images, information, ideas, and political views. Through shared spaces and collaborations, printmakers influence other artists, innovators, and disciplines. With printmaking, we create change together.

We are thrilled to share the news that MFA in Print Media Visiting Artist Alison Saar will be honored with the SGCI Lifetime Achievement Award. The SGCI Lifetime Achievement in Printmaking is awarded to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the professional development of printmaking as a fine art. Saar's sculptures, assemblages and prints meditate on a range of experiences related to the African diaspora. Referencing African, Caribbean and Latin American folk art and spirituality in her work, Saar often alludes to fabled narratives or rituals that help shape personal notions of history and identity.
