Financial Aid Categories

Financial Aid is awarded to students in four categories: scholarships, grants, work-study, and student loans.

Scholarships

  • Merit Scholarships

Merit scholarships are based on the quality of a student’s admission application and awarded at the time of admission. No additional application needs to be completed. Full-time students who are in good academic standing receive the awards for four years (eight semesters), or until the student's graduation requirements are completed. They do not need to be repaid.

  • Juried Scholarships

All students applying to PNCA’s BFA program for the Fall semester prior to February 1st are automatically considered if we have received your submitted FAFSA. The scholarships are available to both U.S. citizens and international students. (Students who have previously attended PNCA as an admitted BFA student are not eligible for these scholarships.)

  • BFA Equity Scholarships

Two full-tuition scholarships (renewable annually) will be awarded to incoming students who have demonstrated a commitment to working with impacted communities to end racial injustice.

Two scholarships of $5,000 (renewable annually) will be awarded to incoming students who have demonstrated a commitment to working with impacted communities to end racial injustice. These scholarships are in addition to the initial merit and portfolio-based scholarship that students receive upon admission into PNCA.

    BFA Equity Scholarships

  • Community College Transfer Partner/Transfer Agreement Scholarship

Students who have attended a community college from our Transfer Partner or Transfer Agreement list and have completed 60 semester or 90 quarter credits (and have received passing grades in each course) are eligible for an additional $5,000 scholarship on top of their initial admissions scholarship, renewable annually.

    Transfer Partnerships

  • PNCA Pre-College Scholarships

High school students who attend a PNCA Pre-College course (either online or in person) are eligible to receive a $1,000 renewable annually. In order to qualify for this scholarship, you must present proof of enrollment to your PNCA Admissions Counselor or include proof of enrollment in your PNCA application.

  • International Scholarships

International Students are eligible to receive a $1,000 renewable scholarship if they meet the following criteria:

    • Do not hold U.S. citizenship

    • Do not have a U.S. Green Card

    • Is not eligible to fill out FAFSA

Please note that International Scholarships cannot be combined with the OR/WA/CA Transfer Scholarship.

Grants, Work-Study, and Student Loans

  • Grants

Grants are awarded after completion and submission of the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) and based on a family’s financial situation. Grants are funded by state and federal sources as well as Willamette’s endowment. They also do not need to be repaid.

  • Work Study

Work-study is awarded to qualified students upon completion of the FAFSA. These help subsidize student employment and are paid as wages for work performed.

  • Student Loans

Student loans are awarded to students to help finance their educational costs. Federal loans are awarded to students upon completion of the FAFSA and need to be repaid. Alternative loans are also available but are not part of the initial award letter.
