Our Game Minor

Create an entirely new world through our gaming minor. Develop a strong narrative, create characters, and design gameplay and mechanics. As one of the most relevant and persuasive forms of entertainment, games build community.

Why choose a Game minor at PNCA:

  • Labs and facilities on campus. PNCA offers several resources around campus to embrace game design. Use the Animated Arts Lab or visit the Creative Technology Lab.
  • Find inspiration on and off campus. Portland is home to a large creative community. Visit board game shops, meet artists at First Thursdays, or network with other creators in the industry.
  • Experience support with every decision. Find peer support through student-run galleries and exhibitions. Meet with faculty to discuss concepts. Connect with the Office of Career Design for professional advice.

Our Faculty

Curriculum

Become familiar with processes for research, experimentation, design, prototyping, and production. Whether you're interested in video games or analog games, develop the skills to bring your ideas to life.

  • IL264 Character Design

    Bring your characters to life by mastering the art of visual storytelling. Mix gestures, expressions, and behaviors to create emotionally impactful characters. Through weekly challenges, guest interviews, and hands-on projects, you'll develop traditional and digital skill sets.

  • CW224 Scripting

    Learn essential terminology, tools, and techniques for crafting stories for stage, screen, comics, and games. Through lectures and peer critiques, you'll develop a complete and cohesive script suitable for various media.

Requirements & Admission

To meet the Game minor requirements, you need to take a variety of 3-credit courses that add up to 15 credits. You can work with your Academic Advisor to make a personalized plan that shows how this minor fits into your studies and makes sure your course choices match your goals and interests.
