Submissions Open to the PNCA Makers Contest

Help Us Celebrate Your Creativity

Showcase your creativity in the Makers Contest for Undergraduate Students, presented by the Hallie Ford School of Graduate Studies. Whether your passion is writing, zines, or printmaking, this is your chance to share your work, connect with PNCA’s vibrant community, and compete for exciting awards including memberships at the Independent Publishing Resource Center. Submissions are open September 15 to December 15, and all participants are invited to join special workshops and events throughout the fall.

Submission Period

  • September 15 – December 15
  • Open to all Undergraduate Students and current IPRC Portfolio Students

Categories

  • Writing (any genre, less than 2500 words)
  • Zines
  • Print (no bigger than 14 x 8.5 inches)

Awards – All categories

First Place: Yearlong Studio Membership to IPRC for Portland Residents ($200 for non-Portland Residents)

Second Place: Yearlong Staple Membership to IPRC Portland Residents ($100 for non-Portland Residents)

  • Zine Winners

    Zines by our two winners will be added to PNCA’s library’s substantial zine collection and displayed this spring 2026 in a larger collection of zines curated by our library.

  • Writing Winners

    Our two winners are invited to be a part of a Virtual Reading at PNCA / HFSGS Literary Salon in March and attend workshops** during Summer residency 2026.

  • Print Winners

    Prints by our two winners will be displayed this spring 2026 in the Print Studio, and the winners will be invited** for a day of making with current Print Media students.

Any contestants who apply for HFSGS programs will have their deposit waived (if admitted).

*Contest also open to current IPRC Portfolio Students
**Travel vouchers are available for first & second place winners.

Submission requirements

The contest is open from September 15 to December 15, 2025.

  • Zine Submissions

    Works must be mailed to or dropped off at:

  • Writing Submissions

    works of any genre (including critical writing) must be no longer than 2500 words and must be submitted via PDF or Word.doc to pnca-gradadmissions@willamette.edu.

  • Print Submissions

    Prints, no larger 14 x 8.5 inches, must be mailed to or dropped off at:
