Welcome Home

All new freshmen and transfer students live in ArtHouse, contemporary student housing on the North Park Blocks in the arts-focused Pearl District. Designed with students in mind, ArtHouse is just a 5-minute walk from the main WU PNCA campus building, the Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Center for Art and Design.

The student apartments are light-filled spaces that face the park and the city, with hallways that serve as gallery spaces for student art. Apartments are furnished and feature modern kitchen appliances and washer/dryers. The Portland Streetcar, rail lines, and bus routes are within blocks of ArtHouse, as are a variety of entertainment and dining options.

FAQ

Below are the most frequently asked questions I receive from parents and incoming students. If you do not see the answer to your question below, please contact me directly at pnca-student-life@willamette.edu. Thank you!

Initial roommate placements will begin in Mid-July. When the first round is done, an email will go out introducing matched roommates. Please know that this is subject to change as more people apply throughout the summer. It is a SOFT placement.

We process each application by hand, once every 1-2 weeks (depending on how busy things are!) If it has been longer than that window, please email pnca-student-life@willamette.edu. You should have received three emails: one with general information (including a recommended items list), one with info on how to pay your deposit, and one a custom deposit link.

Please contact student-accounts@willamette.edu for assistance regarding your deposit.

Both forms allow people to go in and edit their responses. If you cannot do so, please fill it out again and let me know that you’ve done so twice! Remember, you must be logged into your PNCA email to access both forms.

No, no one is allowed to move in prior to move in day on August 23rd, 2021.

ArtHouse has studio, two bedroom and three bedroom floor plans.

Yes, the apartments do come furnished. The units will have a bed (size: twin extra long), desk, couch (not all studios have couches), dining room table and chairs. The units also include appliances: full size washer and dryer, dishwasher, refrigerator, oven, stove and microwave.

The apartments do not include items such as linens, pots and pans, dishes…etc. If you are interested in a short term rental for these types of items, we have worked with CORT in the past. Please contact the Property Manager for more information if you are interested.

Yes, the standard security deposit is $300 per tenant. This deposit is refundable, less cleaning and damage expenses.

No, ArtHouse does not have any parking on site. There is a parking garage next to the facility that offers monthly parking. This lot is managed by City Center Parking and is typically around $230 a month.

Portland is an extremely bicycle and pedestrian friendly city. Additionally, there are plenty of public transportation options to get around town and to the surrounding metro areas. Please visit www.trimet.org and use their trip planner to explore public transportation options to your destination.

Mandatory Housing Policy and Exception Request Process

New PNCA campus undergraduates must reside in ArtHouse for their first year unless they qualify for an exemption or successfully petition for an exception. Exemptions are granted for students who are married or who are living with parents or legal guardians within 25 miles of campus. On a case-by-case basis, the College will review requests for exceptions to this policy based on extraordinary circumstances (e.g., medical issue).
