Sharita Towne

Our past burdens give shape to what worlds we may build, now and in the future. As an artist, Sharita Towne's interests lie in unpacking these inherited struggles, in understanding the mold they imprint on our present selves, and in affording collective catharsis. With this in mind, through collaboration, research, education, stereo-photography, printmaking, bookmaking, video, and socially engaged art projects, Towne has pursued work at concentration camp memorials in Germany, at Sahrawi Refugee camps in Algeria, in Brazil, Chile, Spain, Palestine, gentrifying cities like Portland, OR, in schools, museums, neighborhoods, and within her own family.
