Howard Silverman blends theory and practice in the pursuit of a more just and life-affirming world. He is a founding faculty member of the Collaborative Design MFA / Design Systems MA programs and initiated our curricula in both Applied Systems Thinking and Strategy+Foresight. His writings have appeared in Ecology and Society, Relating Systems and Design, SAGE Handbook of Action Research, Conservation Biology, Ecopsychology, and Journal of Industrial Ecology. He has served on Portland-area nonprofit boards with Mercy Corps Northwest, Recode, and Tryon Life Community Farm. In 2022, he is currently a trustee of the American Society for Cybernetics (est. 1964) and a board member of the International Society for the Systems Sciences (est. 1954-6).
