Howard Silverman blends theory and practice in the pursuit of a more just and life-affirming world. He is a founding faculty member of the Collaborative Design MFA / Design Systems MA programs and initiated our curricula in both Applied Systems Thinking and Strategy+Foresight. His peer-reviewed writings have been published in Ecology and Society, Enacting Cybernetics, Relating Systems and Design, SAGE Handbook of Action Research, Conservation Biology, Ecopsychology, and Journal of Industrial Ecology. From 1999 to 2012 he worked with Portland-based nonprofit Ecotrust and has served on nonprofit boards with Mercy Corps Northwest, Recode, and Tryon Life Community Farm. He is a past board member of the International Society for the Systems Sciences (est. 1954-6) and a current trustee of the American Society for Cybernetics (est. 1964).
