The Center for Contemporary Art & Culture Presents Bruce Nauman: Language Body on the Occasion of Converge 45
Portland, OR—July 8, 2016—The Center for Contemporary Art & Culture at Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) presents Bruce Nauman: Language Body, July 18 through August 6, 2016. This exhibition is part of The Jordan D. Schnitzer Exhibition and Visiting Artist Lecture Series and is co-presented with Converge 45 and the PNCA’s MFA in Print Media.
Language Body presents 15 works by Nauman from the collection of the Jordan D. Schnitzer Family Foundation. The exhibition focuses two signature elements in Nauman’s works, text and the body. Since the late 1960’s, Nauman’s wide ranging work in diverse media has returned again and again to the unstable natures of language and flesh.
“We are excited to be presenting the work of this important post-studio artist in the context of Converge 45 and in partnership with Jordan D. Schnitzer and the Jordan D. Schnitzer Family Foundation,” says Mack McFarland Director, Center for Contemporary Art & Culture at PNCA. “It is great to see these organizations coming together to create a true art convergence in the city of Portland, and PNCA is glad to be a host venue.”
Bruce Nauman was born in 1941 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He received his B.S. in 1964 from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and his M.F.A. in 1966 from the University of California, Davis. From 1966 to 1968, he taught at San Francisco Art Institute, California, and in 1970 he taught at University of California, Irvine. About The Jordan D. Schnitzer Exhibition and Visiting Artist Lecture Series
The Jordan D. Schnitzer Exhibition and Visiting Artist Lecture Series presents an annual curated exhibition from the dynamic and expansive collection of more than 9,000 contemporary prints of Jordan D. Schnitzer and the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation at the Pacific Northwest College of Art 511 Gallery. The series brings an invited artist in connection to the exhibition to engage with PNCA students, faculty, and the public through lectures, studio visits, and collaborations with the MFA in Print Media program. In addition to the Exhibition and Visiting Artist Series, selections from the Collection will be lent to the PNCA Object Library to be studied by students and faculty on a regular rotating basis.
